Microsoft has recently released a how-to video that gives gamers an insight into the upcoming release of the Kinect motion controller for the Xbox 360.

Some of the key points made within the video, narrated by Live's Larry Hryb (Major Nelson), suggest that certain factors need to be adhered to so that it doesn’t compromise the way it works.

Microsoft is clearly trying to do the one thing millions of parents out there have been trying to do for years and that’s make sure that the kids clean up their rooms...

Kinect needs to scan the floor of the room to make sure there are no objects in its way as it tries to make an accurate assessment before you play. And not only have you got tobe tidy but you actually need a big room too; you need to stand a distance of 6ft away from the sensor (this, they suggest, you place on top of your TV). Some games will need you to move side to side, so it's also recommended that you also have a further 3-4ft either side of you. Wow, I don’t know about you but my room really isn’t going to be able to accommodate that!

This then brings us on to the lighting – yes, this really is important! The video suggests that you need even lighting or else the sensors are not going to be happy.
And finally, everything needs to be nice and quiet – no over enthusiastic kids, no screaming babies, no shouting, no music. Why you may ask? It's all because of the voice recognition....

Phew. There seem to be some serious considerations before purchasing Kinect - the question is, with all these factors will it really mount a decent threat to the Wii and PlayStaion Move?Microsoft's Kinect is expected to be released early November 2010 so you'd better start clearing up your room!
